Welcome to Transportation
August 25, 2021 - District Provides Update on Transportation Services
We continue to evaluate all bus routes and seat availability daily in an effort to accommodate riders who are still in need of transportation. Since the first day of school on August 18, we have successfully placed 4,900 students on our routes and are steadily increasing the number of riders each day. If your child presently needs transportation to and/or from school, please contact our Transportation Department at 512-533-6070.
Additionally, we have hired three applicants that are currently in our training program. We have four applicants in the hiring process that are scheduled to begin our driver training program. If hired, it will take approximately eight weeks to get these individuals certified and trained before they are able to drive a bus. Rest assured, we will continue to advertise, recruit and hire drivers as quickly as possible. In the meantime, in addition to their regular duties, all Transportation Department staff will continue to serve as backup drivers and pickup routes as needed.
We sincerely appreciate your patience, understanding and support as we continue to do everything possible to safely and efficiently meet our increase in student ridership while addressing our driver shortage.
The primary goal of the Lake Travis Independent School District's Transportation Department is transport students to and from school safely and efficiently. To accomplish this goal, there are rules and responsibilities for each member of the transportation system which includes staff, students, and parents. We ask parents to become familiar with the rules and procedures and to discuss them with their child(ren).
Important Update on Services for the 2021-2022 School Year
Lake Travis ISD continues to experience a shortage of bus drivers. This is a challenge currently shared by many school districts across Texas. As a result, we will implement the following changes to our transportation services during the coming school year as follows:
- All routes have been modified.
- Some bus stop locations will be consolidated to main thoroughfares/streets at subdivisions and entrances/exits at gates to subdivisions.
- Bus services in West Cypress Hills for West Cypress Hills Elementary and Bella Colinas for Bee Cave Middle School will be suspended for the 2021-2022 school year.
- We will utilize current drivers and transportation department office staff to operate a second wave of pickups and dropoffs. Be advised, this will alter times to an earlier pickup and later dropoff for some of our student riders.
Parents may access Transfinder to see their student’s new bus number, bus stop, and pickup/dropoff times. We will continue to evaluate routes and seat availability over the following weeks to determine if additional changes are necessary.
We are working tirelessly to advertise and recruit drivers. In the meantime, parents are encouraged to transport their children to and from school, if and when possible. We know these modifications to our transportation services may be challenging for some of our families, and we regret any inconvenience as a result of these changes. We sincerely appreciate your patience, understanding and support as we continue to do everything possible to safely and efficiently accommodate our increase in student ridership while addressing our driver shortage.
